Thank you Dr. Murphy-I really enjoyed listening to your talk! It seems having that “growth mindset” is important for professional development-I am wondering if there are anyways to identify future medical students who have this growth mindset? Are interviewees questioned about their resilience and failures and what did they do to succeed? Also you spoke about uncertainty-are medical schools doing enough to enable emerging professionals to cope with uncertainty? Early in medical school assessment can be based on MCQs- right and wrong answers so that binary may not allow room for shades of gray or the unknown. It comes down to pass the exam or assignment rather than truly learning the work. Is there value then for more reflection on work concentrating on gray areas? eg in current pandemic vaccine hesitancy – having to deal with these grey areas can probably help with their growth mindset as emerging professionals in medicine.
