Thank you for your presentation-I was surprised by the lack of female SPs for clinical skills?!! Does your university train and hire patients as Teaching Associates for gynae exams/ rectal exams? What about transgender SPs for clinical skills? At the Faculty of Medicine at my University in Atlantic Canada I did a longitudinal critical ethnography with a cohort of pre-clinical medical students-they had the experience taking a history and examination of transgender SP’s, while they valued the experience they proceeded to “other” the transgender patient-finding it difficult to use the “right” language while in reality anyone can be transgender-and they should be respectfully speaking to everyone in the same manner-this unconscious bias act of “othering” is difficult to break as for a long time the binary of male/female existed and the other has not been recognized.
Thanks for sharing your work!
